National Service Scheme (NSS)
Overview
The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of the Government of India, launched in 1969, aimed at developing the personality and character of students through community service.
Objectives
1. Personality Development: To develop the personality and character of students through community service.
2. Community Service: To enable students to understand the problems of the community and to develop a sense of social responsibility.
3. National Integration: To promote national integration and social harmony among students.
Activities
NSS units in colleges and universities undertake various activities, including:
1. Blood Donation Camps: Organizing blood donation camps to promote blood donation and save lives.
2. Tree Plantation: Planting trees to promote environmental conservation and sustainability.
3. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan: Participating in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan to promote cleanliness and sanitation.
4. Disaster Relief: Providing relief and support to people affected by natural disasters.
5. Health and Hygiene: Organizing health and hygiene awareness programs to promote public health.
